Phase 1 (200 Hours of Demonstration and Observation with a certified professional) will take one year to complete (unless taking an intensive.) The candidate is on their own to complete Phase 2 (175 Hours of Self Practice) and Phase 3 (100 Hours of Practice Teaching). All hour requirements must be met within two years of completing Phase 1. Upon completion of the Teacher Training Course the applicant will be prepared to apply for National Board Certification through the PMA Pilates Certification Exam™.

COURSE LAYOUT
Phase 1: (200 hours) Lecture, Observation and Demonstration: This phase is done with a Team Pilates Teacher Trainer and will include lecture, observation, practice and demonstration of the Pilates mat and equipment exercises.

Phase 2: (100 hours) Self Practice: This phase is done on the students own time and must be completed prior to application for the PMA National Certification Exam.

Phase 3: (175 hours) Student Teaching: This phase will be done both with observation from a Teacher Trainer and on the students own time. The student teaching hours are when the student will begin to work hands on with clients for a nominal fee to the client.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
Written Examination: A written examination containing fifty multiple choice questions and one essay will be administered at the end of Phase 1. The examination will include questions covering mat and equipment work and basic anatomy.

Practical Examination: A practical examination will be administered at the end of Phase 1 in order to show the teacher trainer that the student is able to proficiently work with a client on a one on one basis prior to beginning Phase 3: Student Teaching. The practical exam will include the screening and physical assessment of a new client, and the organization of a private session specific to said client.
