frequently asked questions

How long does it typically take a person to become certified?

This depends on if you are only looking to get certified in Mat Work, or if you wish to become a Certified Pilates Instructor, meaning you are qualified to teach Pilates Mat and Apparatus. You can choose to only certify in certain apparatus as well, for example, only the Reformer. The Mat and Reformer work are most popular in Fitness and Gym settings. This typically takes a few months for each type of training (ie: Mat=2 months, Reformer=3 months).

For Mat work, you must complete 2 modules/courses, Mat 1 and Mat 2. Each of these courses has a written exam at the end of the course. To be titled a “Certified Mat Instructor”, you must then complete a practical exam once both of the Mat courses have been completed.

For the Reformer, there are 3 modules, Ref 1, Ref 2 and Ref 3. Again at the completion of each course, you will have a written exam. Once you have completed all 3 modules, you must complete a practical exam to be considered a “Certified Pilates Reformer Instructor”.

If you wish to be able to identify yourself as a “Certified Pilates Instructor” however, you must go through the entire comprehensive training. You are then qualified to teach in Pilates Studios, Gyms, Fitness Centers, PT clinics, etc. Once you have reached this level of certification, you are also qualified to sit for the national Pilates Method Alliance exam. You are then considered a “Nationally Certified Pilates Instructor”.
